I feel like this year is flying by! How is it already July?? When I was young, the 4th of July marked the over halfway mark on the summer and summer seemed to fly by after the 4th of July. I am like holding onto every minute of Summer – slow down!!
That being said, being that it’s July, I thought I would do a check in on my #2017MakeNine goals that I set at the new year. I would say that I made decent progress and made some “substitutions”. So let’s go ahead and jump in!
1. Kelly Anorak – Check!
Is it bad to say that this is my proudest make of 2017 so far? And my favorite? Gosh, so glad I made this! That’s all on that one.
Completed – May 2017
2. Lonetree Jacket and Vest – Half Check?
I set out to make both the jacket and the vest. I’ve made the jacket. I would like to make the vest, but I don’t think it’s on my Must Make Right Now list. Between the Kelly and the Lonetree, I’m set with “lightweight” jackets!
Completed – April 2017
3. Claire Jacket – Substitution!
I still would really like to make the Claire Jacket, but I made the Chloe Coat from Sew Over It and I am heading to Camp Workroom Social in October and will be making the Ellsworth Coat. So while the Claire is still on my list, I’ll call this a partial completion.
Completed – March 2017
4. Chi Town Chinos
I really need to give these a go. I’ve pulled the pattern out multiple times and never pulled the trigger. Maybe in the fall?
5. Birkin Flares – Substitution!
So, I really wanted to make the Birkins at the beginning of the year. But, since then, I’ve made 4 more pairs of Gingers ( 2 denim blue, 1 pair of failed white jeans, 1 pair of failed black jeans and 1 pair of floral jeans) and a pair of Morgan Jeans (coming soon to the blog!). If it ain’t broke don’t fix it? Closet Case Patterns – you win at jeans patterns for me!
Completed – January, March, April, May, and July 2017
6. Betty Dress
This is another one where I’ve pulled the pattern out a billion times and haven’t pulled the trigger. I’m really nervous I won’t like it on me? Hopefully I’ll give it a go soon!
7. Cheyenne Tunic
After making a few Hey June Patterns recently, I need to make this soon! Maybe a little closer to fall?
8. Bowline Sweater – Check
So…..I made this in November and my husband was like well, that looks interesting? So, it’s definitely not for me. And there is no photographic evidence because my photographer told me it looked awful!
Completed – January
9. Lane Raglan – Check!
Done and Done!
Completed – June 2017.
With 6-ish of the 9 items crossed off the list, I feel like that’s pretty good! I have lots of other goals to complete before the end of the year, but I would say it’s been a good start! For fun, here’s my “stats” for the year on my makes so far:
Tops: 33 Tops
Bottoms: 8 Bottoms
Outerwear: 5 Jackets
Cardigans: 4 Cardigans
Dresses: 12 Dresses
Total Garments Made: 62 Handmade Garments Added to my closet!
The most surprising one? 12 Dresses – I think I have handmade dresses, apparently I was wrong. I think this was heavily skewed by my #MeMadeMay T-shirt Dress overload! I made 7 dresses that month!
Do we think I can add at least 62 more items before year end? Stay tuned!
Did you make a #2017MakeNine pledge? How are you doing on it? Anything you’re dying to make that you haven’t yet?
You’re a clothing factory Lara! I think if there was a contest about who sewed the most clothes for themselves in a single year you would be the winner – that’s an impressive array! From Tees to jackets and jeans – you’ve shown you can sew anything. Congratulations!
Ha! Thank you – or I have no life other than sewing in my spare time….probably more likely. It’s been a crazy year so far – we’ll see what the second half brings!
You make me feel like a slacker! ?? You’ve done such a great job of accomplishing your goals and being open to reconsidering them when they don’t make sense anymore (I need to work on that…). I really need to give some of those tee shirts a go, and you’ve also inspired me to make some Gingers – I thought of you and Kalle as I was tracing off my pattern onto non-Kalle approved tissue paper.
Haha!! Well, if you ever want the name of the approved tracing paper – let me know. It really is amazing. I can’t wait to see what you think of the Gingers. I have to take off like 6 inches from them for my #sewingshort adjustment so I’m curious to see if you have to take or add any length on. I am probably the best at rationalizing why when I don’t meet my goals it’s okay and I probably didn’t mean to set them anyways, which actually can be a huge flaw in the goal setting department. But I think I stayed pretty close to true here which is a big win for me.
Sorry I forgot to mention what I’ve been meaning to make and haven’t yet – it’s the Asymetrical hem dress by Trend patterns in the UK – I also have her cape pattern and now her Pleated Shoulder Dress on the way! I love her designs so much but they keep getting put onto the “next” pile!
Ooh! All of those are so pretty. My “next” pile is so high it’s absurd. Oh the life of us sewists…..
