I have been so excited to launch this series – for a while now – and now I’m finally doing it! I’m excited to announce the start of an activewear series here on Handmade by Lara Liz – The Search for My Perfect Handmade Activewear. Similar to my Search for the Perfect T-Shirt, my goal is to review many different leggings, workout tops, and athleisure patterns over the course of the next few weeks. You may notice that I replaced the search for the with the search for my – one thing I learned during my Search for the Perfect T-Shirt series is that everyone has a different idea of “perfect” and that’s okay – that’s why there are SO many patterns. So I’m searching to find the perfect activewear for me while sharing with all of you the different patterns and thoughts I have.
I have to be honest, I originally wasn’t super into sewing my own workout gear. I’m a 100% ride or die Lululemon fan [Wunder Unders all the way] and usually only wear black leggings and the same type of workout top. So, I thought it might be a little boring. But, I decided to step outside the box a little bit and give it a try. So I bought some fun fabrics, lots of leggings fabrics and am ready to jump in!
With these sorts of series, I don’t usually put an end date on things. I really enjoy seeing where inspiration takes and share with you all as much as I can create on the subject.
So, what type of workout gear are we talking about?
My main form of exercise is Barre – I attend Pure Barre most days of the week and am starting a March Madness Challenge today so that’s my main form. I also am a past runner (I’ve run 5 half marathons – 3 Disney and 2 Nike Women’s Half Marathons – and a Disney 10 Miler) and want to jump back into running so I want to wear my handmades for that too!
I’ll be kicking off the series on Monday with some awesome fabric that I can’t wait to share, but until then wanted to give you an overview of the series and what I have on the docket pattern wise!

You should add duffel bags to use as gym bags to your list! Looking forward to the series!
There are so many patterns here that I haven’t heard of before. Excited to see what you create! As another former runner turned barre enthusiast (due to injury not choice) I’m very excited about your quest!
Can’t wait for this!! I have a couple of the patterns, but never heard of New Horizons.
Oh boy! I cannot wait to see this series! Especially the two tops! I have such a hard time finding workout tops (at TJMaxx where I get all my workout gear). It would be great to have a quick cute make Go to it!
Thanks you the chapter ???
