It’s the first day of summer and I am so excited to be sharing my latest collaboration with D&H Fabrics Co! Tammy’s shop opened this week and you won’t believe all the beautiful fabrics she has in stock! She sent me some beautiful rayon bamboo jersey and it was just dying to be a Waterfall Raglan from Chalk and Notch.
The Pattern and the Top
It’s no secret around here that I’m a huge fan of Chalk and Notch patterns. I am currently testing her newest pattern – the Pixie Tee – but until that comes out, I am here to share my newest Waterfall Raglan! This is the second Waterfall Raglan I’ve made but this time I opted for the short sleeve version for summer. I love how comfortable and easy to wear this top is. You can dress it up with a fun statement necklace or dress it down with a casual pair of leggings. I’m all about the options!
I used my favorite hem technique for frilly patterns and used a 3 thread rolled hem on my serger to finish off the hem. It is super easy if you can get the setting right on your serger because you just run it through once and it’s done! It does require you to have matching thread for your project in your serger, but it’s super worth it. On my serger (which is this Bernina serger), the settings are Upper Looper: 4, Lower Looper: 7, Right Needle 4.
For my next Waterfall Raglan, I really want to learn how to gather knits on a serger. I HATE gathering and I hate it even more for knit fabrics, so being able to do it on my serger would be a huge win. If anyone has any tips or good blogs to read, let me know!
The Fabric
When Tammy reached out to me about a collaboration I was so excited to learn about the fabrics that she was stocking. She sent me a few options via email but when she told me that she has a bamboo rayon jersey, I knew that was what I had to try! I have a really hard time finding bamboo jerseys I love online. This bamboo rayon jersey is medium-ish weight, 250 gsm 95% Rayon from Bamboo and 5% Spandex. It is full bodied without being stiff and perfectly drapey for a top like this or the Pony Tank.
D&H Fabric Co’s grand opening is this week and I can’t wait for you to see all the beautiful fabrics that she’s stocking. She sent me some previews and guys, it’s amazing. She’s running 15% off for her opening weekend from June 20-24th (automatically applied at checkout) so don’t miss out!
D&H Fabrics Co kindly sent me the fabric and compensated me in exchange for sewing up this garment free of charge, but as always, all opinions are my own.
What size did you use for your waterfall? I have made a couple and have had to do some alterations to get a good fit. Knowing it is a flowy top it was still way to big on me!
Hi Ann! I made a size 8 which is my normal size for Chalk and Notch. It does have a good bit of ease in it so maybe sizing down or grading down around the waist and hips might help
