I have been in love with this pattern from the minute I saw the testing call. My life has been borderline insane recently and sewing hasn’t been top of my to-do list so I was so excited to make some time to sew up the Fulton Sweater Blazer this weekend – I want to make a million more!
The Pattern and The Blazer
The Fulton Sweater Blazer from Alina Design Co is an open front sweater jacket with an awesome collar detail. It features two views – a hip length and a knee length. It also has two sleeve lengths – 3/4 and long sleeve. I chose to sew up the hip length and long sleeve version. I wish I would have sewn up the 3/4 sleeve instead because my sleeve is a bit long, but other than that, it’s a perfect fit!
I sewed up a size 10 and I chose to size up to give a roomier fit in the arms and bodice. I sometimes wear thicker tops so I wanted to give myself enough room.
I was able to sew up the Fulton in a day because I was able to sew up some of the seams with just my serger. Also, I was able to use the sewalong posted on the Alina Design Co to help with the collar. That was the only part that took me longer than expected. I ended up having to seam rip it a few times but once I got it it made perfect sense! Fortunately there is a video to guide you along the way.
I used two yards of Ponte Knit from Raspberry Creek Fabrics to sew up my Fulton. I was a little nervous I didn’t have enough fabric as the pattern says you need 2 3/4 yards but I cut out all the facings in a different fabric and had plenty to spare!
I love the Ponte Knit from RCF – I’ve used it for a couple other projects and it never disappoints. Ponte is a great fit for this pattern. I chose a solid because I wanted it to be really versatile, but it would be really cute in a ponte print too (like this one!).
I can’t wait to make another Fulton! Off to decide what fabric to use next.
I received 2 yards of fabric from Raspberry Creek Fabrics as part of their blogger team in exchange for sewing up and posting about this garment. As always, all opinions are my own.
