Earlier this spring and summer I sewed up a bunch of t-shirts for my Search for the Perfect T-Shirt series. The Favorite Tee from Patterns for Pirates was a recommended t-shirt that I didn’t have a chance to sew up as part of the series so I decided to sew it up this week!
The Pattern
The Favorite Tee is a fitted t-shirt through the bust and then flares out a little bit at the hips. It comes with a variety of different views. Two different necklines – scoop and v-neck, three sleeve options – short, 3/4 and long, and five hem/length options – banded knot tie hem, shirt length with side vent hem, tunic length with side vent hem, a curved tunic length and a curved dress length.
This is the third of the Patterns for Pirates patterns (see Cocoon Cardigan here and Brunch Blouse here) I’ve sewn up and my favorite part of the actual pattern itself? The no trim pages – makes printing and putting together the PDF so easy!
Similar to the Cocoon Cardigan, there was a piece that I had to cut myself (there was no pattern piece), but it was just the scoop neckband, which wasn’t a big deal at all.
The Tee
I think if I had made this tee during my series, it would have swept a bunch of the categories in the round up post! I defined my perfect t-shirt as a fitted t-shirt through the bust and roomier (but still fitted) through the waist and hips. I like a scoop neck tee that isn’t too deep of a scoop neck (like Goldilocks…) and multiple sleeve options. I don’t love elbow length sleeves and prefer those aforementioned sleeve options include short sleeve and 3/4 length.
That pretty much sums up the Favorite Tee!
I sewed up the curve hem with 3/4 length sleeves and a scoop neck. The neckband on the scoop neck is fairly thick which makes the scoop not too low.
I didn’t hem mine because hemming a curved knit hem was just not on my list of things I was going to tackle this weekend!
The Fabric
I used the world’s softest Bamboo Cotton Jersey from La Mercerie. I feel like sometimes it’s hard buying bamboo knits online (they are not all made equally) but I will for sure be ordering from La Mercerie again!

Beautiful Tee Lara – it does have all my favourite things too! Fitted through the bust with a little room around the waist and hips and that curved hem make it very flattering on every woman.
It is definitely going to become my “favorite t-shirt!”
Love this! Every time you post an adorable (and sensible) tee shirt, I tell myself I reeeeeeeeally need to make some! Someday…
Hah! Also, they’re so quick! I think this took 30 minutes in total. You should totally make one 🙂
This is fabulous! Question:. What kind of serger do you have? Comments about it? I might be in the market for a new one.
Hi Susan! Thank you! I have a Bernina 450 serger and LOVE it! I know it’s on the more expensive side of sergers but I almost never have to adjust the settings no matter my fabric. Hope that helps!
