One of my favorite times of the year is the reflection and goal setting before the new year. I saw that Gillian from Crafting a Rainbow hosts a #SewingTop5 series on her blog and thought these would be great prompts to reflect on a year well sewn! For the next couple Thursdays you can see my top 5 hits, misses, highlights, reflections, and goals. Let’s start off on a high note – the hits!
One | Kelly Anorak
This one was a slam dunk for me. I have always admired the Kelly Anorak and after seeing a bunch pop up last spring, I couldn’t stop myself from jumping right in. I have worn this anorak so much! It makes me want to make another one – in the same fabric. I sewed mine up in a Ventana Twill from Robert Kaufman based on recommendations from Heather from Closet Case Patterns.
Two | Coram Top
I know I just made this two weeks ago, but I just love the Coram Top I made! I had basically given up on woven t-shirts for me and this has made me feel like I just needed to find the pattern for me. I also had always told myself that raglans weren’t for me, but between my Clare Coat at this top, I think I was wrong!
Three | Fringe Blouse
My Fringe Blouses get the most wear in my work wardrobe out of all my handmades. The shape, style lines and beautiful features make for a top that stays at the top of my to-wear list. My favorite feature is the ties at the back waist on my second version I made. It makes the top feel so feminine. I really should think about making another one here soon because I wear these two so much.
Four | Molly Dress
Speaking of work wear – I can’t tell you how big of a savior my Molly Dress has been. There have been multiple times this year where I’ve needed to wear business professional or be more dressed up than usual for work and the Molly Dress is one I always reach for. Also, what’s not to love about a knit dress that looks dressy! Secret pajamas for the win!
Five | Silk Cami
I know this one is totally a basic, but this Silk Cami is my favorite that I’ve made – and that says a lot because I’ve made 7 or 8 silk camis. The fabric is also so me – navy with a pop of florals! Each one of my silk camis fits a little different depending on the fabric, but this fabric was the perfect fit for the pattern.
I think I love it a little bit more because I made it because another project went horribly wrong. I tried to make a Bettine dress and got stuck in it (no joke!) and had to cut myself out of it. It was a total low in my sewing career! But in the end, I ended up with this silk cami with the fabric that was left – including perfect pattern placement which was a shock because I barely had enough left. Sometimes those are the best projects – the ones with awesome backstories!
So there we have it, my top 5 hits of 2017! I’d love to hear your top 5 hits of 2017. I’ll be back next week to share my top 5 misses of 2017 – because not all sewing projects turn out like we planned….
My number 1 is the Toaster Sweater, 2 is the Ebony, 3 is the Pia dress by Tessuti, 4 is the Hairrison and 5 is the Concord. That was easy 🙂 Love all your top 5 too Lara. Thanks for another great post. I think these top 5 favourites and least favourites posts are the most helpful for sewists. They point to what works best and least so others can make informed decisions about what patterns to buy and avoid 🙂 (if they have the same body type!)
Such a great list Kathleen! I think it’s always good to think back to what were the makes that really made an impact on your wardrobe versus ones that were fun to make/a good idea, but didn’t get the wear they should have. Helps you figure out what you should be making!
Very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for stopping by!
