Sticking with the Sew Over It theme for the week, I decided this weekend that for the last snap of winter we're having here in Virginia to sew up the new Chloe Coat from Sew Over It! I've been a huge admirer of this coat - it was a class that Sew Over It taught in London, but it hadn't been released as a pattern. When it was released earlier this winter as an online class it went immediately into my cart and I ordered all the supplies from Sew Over It. I loved Lisa's hot pink version and ... View Post
Me Made Monday – Silk Cami + Laurelhurst
We've been having some amazing temperatures here in Virginia. February feels like May and I am not complaining! This weekend, I decided that I was in need of some new tops in my wardrobe and decided to go into my stash for some inspiration. The first new addition to my wardrobe this weekend was this Sew Over It Silk Cami. I have made a handful of these tops - mainly when I first started sewing. In the past, I had a lot of issues with the facing sitting flat across my chest. I decided to do a ... View Post
Moss Skirt vs Chi Town Chino Skirt
One of my favorite parts about sewing is finding the patterns that work for you - work for your body, your style and your skill set. I love seeing the creativity of all the indie pattern designers to see what unique finishes or construction they use in making similar garments. I think the Moss Skirt and Chi Town Chino Skirt is a perfect example of similar skirts that are very different in a lot of ways! I had a lot of fun sewing both skirts up and thought a comparison between the two might be ... View Post
Me Made Monday – The Perfect Pencil Skirt
I think I carry around some emotional baggage about pencil skirts. I have extremely short legs - I am not too short, measuring in at 5'4 and a half (the half is really important!) but I swear my legs are disproportionately short for my height. Because of this, I have always struggled with RTW skirts. I used to try and try and try to wear them when I was in high school and college, but without a doubt, I always looked terribly shorter than I already was and it was just not flattering. This was ... Me Made Monday – Cape Edition
One of my goals for 2017 was to create a wardrobe of mostly handmade clothing and I've been working this month on trimming down my closet (one donation bag at a time...) of all the RTW items that I just don't wear. These me made posts will challenge me to wear a completely handmade outfit at least one day a week. Most days of the week I am wearing at least one handmade thing, but this really challenges me to build up my basics me made items. Without further ado, here's Me Made Monday - ... View Post
Ginger Jeans + My First Knitted Sweater
One of my favorite makes to date has been my Ginger Jeans that I made this summer. Since making those, I’ve been dying to make another pair. My first pair was in a grey denim and while I really like them, I was really interested in making a pair in a dark denim. About a month ago, after reading a lot of people’s blogs about their own Gingers, I decided to order some Cone Mills Denim from Threadbare Fabrics in their 12 Oz Cone Mills S-Gene Denim in Indigo. This Friday, I was at Stitch and ... View Post
